Based on her observations of shadows on the ground and shadows on the ground, the artist spent months perfecting a technique to express objects in two dimensions on canvas. Instead, the object is transformed into a re-creation of itself in which the painting is the vehicle for its personal interpretation by painting, particularly in the case of living or perishable items, such as people or fruit. Alexa's style of painting exhibits a hazy quality and the only thing remaining of Alexa Meade's work is her photo. The painting and the photographic techniques are so closely coordinated and result in an unflat, 2-dimensional space, which achieves trompe l'oeil, wherein the third dimension is only visible in specific areas that are close to the eyes or hair. Occasionally, Meade integrates her painted models into the 3D space around them, allowing them to interact within the self-created universe. The distinctions between performance installation, photography and painting are thus dissolved.
